I'm headed to Podcast Movement 2026 in New York City!
I've love to meet with you and talk shop. Here's a list of everything I do in podcasting:
- A podcast newsletter about podcasting (and this podcast!)
- Crew Collective - a podcast I produce at Rocketgenius for those that love space and creativity.
- Our Beloved Medium - an indie podcast I'm executive producing with my friend Stuart.
- The WP Minute - my publishing business including podcasts, newsletters, youtube channels and communities for WordPress.

Welcome back to another Matt has a podcast about podcasting short episode today. Just a word of advice as I venture into my first podcast movement conference event ever. And I'm excited to go. It's in New York, which is really close to me. I'm just south of Boston, so the trip and the travel, a little bit easier for me. I really enjoy it. So I just want to pontificate on this event and uh offer up advice for those of you who are going to podcast movement, maybe for the first time, uh, and maybe you have some goals in mind. That's what I want to share today, and how I kind of use these uh events explicitly for well moving forward in the podcasting space that I find myself in. So I haven't been to New York on that side of New York in a very long time. Uh it's outside or it's in Manhattan. And um, well, with the age of AI, I I have I'm taking the train in, and I have never taken the train to the new station, apparently. So I just said, hey, how do I get from my from the train uh station to the hotel, and then from the hotel to the event. Uh it's kind of fun uh in this day of AI to just say, hey, plot out this whole itinerary, not even this itinerary, but like what am I going to expect? Where am I going to have to travel to? Where do I go to pick up the Uber? How do I how far away is the hotel? Just do all of the logistics for me. And I just dumped everything into Chat GPT and it built out this whole uh logistics plan for me, including when I leave on Saturday, uh, where I should go to do some work. There's a gap from checkout to uh when my train leaves. So it just recommended a bunch of places where I could sit down and work on my laptop for a few hours. So really cool in this uh new age to not even have to search uh Reddit posts and travel sites. Uh it's good or bad, I guess. But it built out this whole itinerary. So really cool, really excited to see how that actually pans out through the travels. The goal that I have is to meet new people, folks like you to talk about um thepodcastsetup.com, my newsletter behind this show. I want to find people who want to be interviewed on this podcast to talk about their podcast setup, to find out what they're doing with podcasting from that real indie podcast perspective that I think I talked about on the last episode of Matt Has a Podcast about podcasting, especially when I talk about what podcasting means to me and how people find opportunities in this space if you're not a celebrity, part of a big media outlet, or have you know backing uh of funding already? So that's the goal. I want to meet you, the podcaster who's going to be at podcast movement, and just talk shop a little bit, tell you what I'm doing with the podcast setup, what my goals are, and then hear what your goals are with your podcast and lots of fun stuff there. I work professionally with air quotes. If you're watching, you'll see the air quotes. If you're just listening, you don't see the air quotes. Um I work professionally in podcasting, right? My role at Rocket Genius, which are the makers of Gravity Forms, a very popular Gravity Forms, or excuse me, a very popular Forms plugin for WordPress. I produce YouTube content for them, I produce their podcast. So I've been in the game for a while. Worked at a podcast hosting company. I've been personally podcasting for like 15 to 18 years. I forget where we are and the timeline of life. So I've been in this game for a while and I run my own publication. I have the podcast setup, I have the WP Minute, and they both center around podcasting, publishing, freedom of distribution of content. Um, and I'm not a big shop. So I have a lot of you know background in this space from what I would call the blue-collar podcast perspective, making a good living doing this stuff, um, but uh always trying to achieve for the next. And I'd love to, you know, share that story with you and talk with you at podcast movement if you're doing the same kind of thing. So look out for me there at Podcast Movement. Wherever you're watching, listening to this, you know, hit me up, hit the old contact button uh if this is on the website, tweet at me on Twitter, X at Matt Madeiras, or go to thepodcastsetup.com and subscribe there, join the newsletter, send me a message there, and we will connect. That's what I have for you today. Very important to have these goals and these ambitions when I'm going to these events, uh, and really just saying, like, I'm gonna go to this event, I'm gonna take the time off, which is it's not the monetary exchange, it's really the time away from family after coming back from another vacation that we'll be on, and uh having to rework the schedule. Like, I don't want to just you know throw it to the wind. Like, yes, I'm gonna go and have fun at the event, but I'm also going to say I'm there to represent the podcast setup brand, the WP Minute, me at Gravity Forms. I want to meet professionals that will help push my content and all this stuff forward. And hopefully you I can share stuff with you that helps push your thing forward. So that's what I want to do at Podcast Movement. I hope to see you there. Shout out to my friend Liam Dempsey, who runs Start Local Podcast, your local podcast. You might kill me if I can't remember this name. It's in Philly. Uh he's in the Philly area, and he has a local podcast where he interviews a bunch of people. He recently told me that he got a bucket list interview. So awesome stuff. That's like one of the things about podcasting. Like going to these events, you never know what podcasting will bring because it's never just about the audio. This is why I get so emotional about you know audio and video. Neither of that matters. It's the purpose and the connections in the community. Like podcasting delivers so much more than just that episode going out or just those downloads that you're watching on your analytics. So much more can be unlocked in terms of life and opportunity and connections, both personally and professionally. So kudos to Liam. Uh, kudos to you if you're hitting your podcast bucket list. That's out there. Matt has a podcast about podcasting. Thepodcastsetup.com is the newsletter. I'll see you at podcast movement in New York September.
